Chris Jones has been a government and public affairs specialist in the not-for-profit sector in Ottawa for the past twelve years. Originally from British Columbia, he worked as a policy advisor in two ministers’ offices in the early 1980s. During his time in government, he worked on Parliament Hill and in the Departments of Environment, Foreign Affairs, Finance and the predecessor to Canadian Heritage. As a lobbyist and policy specialist he has executed numerous government affairs campaigns on behalf of large companies and industry associations on a range of transportation, tourism and environmental files. He lived overseas in the UK and France for seven years in the late 1980s and first half of the 1990s.
He joined the Sport Matters Group in March of 2011 and is committed to the cause of furthering sport and physical activity in this country. He is a qualified tennis and soccer coach and enjoys those sports in his spare time.
Chris has published extensively in various Canadian publications and has appeared frequently in the electronic and print media. He has lectured at several Canadian universities in the past including Carleton, Ottawa, Waterloo, Ryerson and the Canada School of Public Service. He has degrees from Queen’s University, the London School of Economics and Oxford University, where he obtained a doctorate.

Jessica Young has worked in the legal field for the past five years and has expertise in public law. She completed a clerkship at the Federal Court of Canada in 2007 and worked for Canadian National Railway’s in-house legal department in 2004. More recently, she was legal counsel for Justice Canada from 2009-2011.
Jessica joined the Sport Matters Group in May of 2011. She is passionate about sport and is excited about engaging collaboratively with the sport community in order to advance sport and public policy. She is a former All-Canadian varsity athlete and national program rugby player, and currently enjoys cycling, running and volunteering as a spin instructor.
Originally from New Brunswick, Jessica has a political science degree from McGill University, a law degree from Dalhousie University and a master's degree in law from the University of Ottawa. She was called to the Ontario Bar in 2007.
