Good afternoon SMG,

I'm posting from Calgary today as we launch the conversations about a New Way Forward for Sport - see www.sportalberta.ca

Will be at Canada Olympic Park with the Calgary Sport Council for a discussion over lunch about municipal policy and election strategies. Then off to Lethbridge where around 30 people are coming out tonight to talk abour future directions, what's needed to get there, and what sport can do for Alberta.

More to follow later today.

The extent to which a society is able to receive and integrate immigrants, refugees and minorities depends on a number of societal conditions, some of which can be strongly affected by government policy. The “Welcoming Communities” policy‑research priority focuses on determining what public policy instruments can enhance the capacity of Canada, its cities and communities to receive, integrate and retain immigrants, refugees and minorities. It also seeks empirically determined best practices that can be adapted for use in other contexts.

Agenda

Let's Make Waves and the Aviva Community Fund Contest

As you may know, the Toronto Sports Council has been assisting the aquatic community in finding a long-term solution for keeping the school board swimming pools open.  Let's Make Waves has posted a submission to the Aviva Community Fund contest in the hope of being awarded up to $250,000 to keep the pools operating.  We need your help.

SOS – Sink or Swim has made it to the final round of voting for the Aviva competition!!!

From over 2000 entries across Canada, SOS – Sink or Swim, was among the top 60 submissions. The Top 25 from this final round go before a panel of judges, who make the ultimate decision how to allocate the funds.

We need to be in the Top 25.  By voting, you’re telling Canada that pools matter. Pools are not dispensable. Swimming is a fundamental life skill and all residents of our community – rich or poor – should have the opportunity to learn how to swim.

Vote daily and remind your friends! Just click here vote or copy the following link into your web browser http://www.avivacommunityfund.org/ideas/acf2904
