| Many of your colleagues offer up money – an essential ingredient of success. The past five years have shown that it takes a stable pool of about $350,000 a year to achieve the kind of success we’ve had to date. Organizations make up around $130,000 of this total and try to contribute between 0.5% to 1% of their total budget. Find more info in the left hand column. | You and your organizations can lend your names as endorsements for policy positions and campaigns, significantly increasing the power and credibility of activities designed to show the sector’s interest in certain positions. | Over the past several years, there has been a stable investment of time from CEOs and key decision makers to attend SMG meetings and to help shape public policy on sport and physical activity. We encourage dedicating up to 3% of the chief staff officer’s time. |
| Some of your colleagues contribute to the costs of office space, travel, printing, data collection, communications, meetings, fiduciary functions, and the operations and administration of your SMG. Email Liz at: info@sportmatters.ca to let us know what you can help out with. | Our collective work on the 2006 and 2008 federal election campaigns, as well as the most recent Ontario and Alberta elections brought forward unprecedented attention to sport and physical activity, driven by a record level of sector engagement in the election process. | Connect with leaders from across the sector when you have an interest and a willingness to engage around a specific policy issue, to bring or to develop their policy expertise, or to work to advance a policy goal or to help build policy capacity within the sport and physical activity sector. See our homepage for more info. |
| You can reach out to others in order to expand the network, and community, of those who care about the future of sport and physical activity. Or plug your networks into the Friends of Canadian sport who work collectively to connect the dots between sport at all levels, especially in their communities. Email Liz at: info@sportmatters.ca to ask how. | Whether it is in a meeting or replying to an email, you can contribute your feedback and ideas that help guide the work of your SMG. | There are always opportunities to contribute expertise and content for policy papers and media releases, the online community and policy capacity group, and in government relations. Email Liz at info@sportmatters.ca to find out more. |
